Cohen's Moral Panic
Moral Panic is a condition, episode of a person, a group of people emerge as a threat to social values and interests, I.E. drugs, youths, and the MP's expenses scandal are all examples of a moral panic. The media creates "Folk Devils" these are groups if people that have been established as bad groups of people who are effecting the Moral Panic.
Moral Panic falls into to 5 categories
Moral Panic falls into to 5 categories
- Concern - the behaviour of a group are represented as being a threat the requires our concern
- Volatility - this is a short lived period. Panic erupts but is difficult to sustain. There are negative consequences for the rest of us
- Hostility - "folk devils" constructed to create a division between 'them' and 'us'
- Consensus - there is a widespread acceptance of threat posed by the group. This does not always reflect nation concern, but the campaigner will be very vocal whilst opposition will be weak and disorganised
- Disproportionality - there is a wild exaggeration of the evidence presented against the opposition - everything from the number of people involved to the scale of the problem is exaggerated to create a moral panic

Semiotic Theory
Semiotic theory was created by Sausser it is the theory of sign, signifer, signified. This means that their is a certain thing that makes you think of another thing which links to another thing for example, Rain, moody, Depression, Emo/death. Also this shows in a magazine darker colours link to a rock theme were as brighter clours link to a more pop magazine.
I have choosen to do my magazine for an alternative/indie magazine for my coursework this is because this is my favorite style of music and i find it easier to relate to as this is the most music i listen to.
Feminism

Laura Mulvey created a theory called the 'Male Gaze', this edition of the magazine Rolling Stone which shows Megan Fox in a revealing seductive pose. This leads to assumption that this will make men buy the magazines, just because of what is on the front cover.
Mulvey argues that people look at things in two different ways,
- Voyeurism- turning the represental figure into an object so that it becomes increasingly beautiful.
- Fetishism- Cult of the female movie star i.e Marlyn Monroe, celebrated for her looks but considered an object and often treated as one.
